This jug was inspired by the classical beauty of Greek pottery and its feminine curved shapes and outlines, I've tried to recreate this feel in this jug. I've also added abstract painted designs using oxides and underglazes slips in hot colours for a Grecian summer feel. And finally I've added transfers of chrysanthemum flowers and insects with gold luster highlights to the body and rim of the jug. All my work is made using slab building techniques. I have always preferred handbuilding, even though it can be very time consuming, you are not restricted in your design by shapes. I design on paper and then use these paper templates to cut out into the clay. I then hand mold the flat clay towards the shapes I need, letting them dry to leather hard before placing the two halves together and attaching them with clay slip.

This jug was inspired by the classical beauty of Greek pottery, with its feminine curved shapes and outlines. I have tried to replicate these themes with this jug. I've also added abstract painted designs in dark coloured slips and oxide for a more contemporary feel and finished with flower and insect transfers and gold highlights for the body and rim of the jug to make a midnight insect garden. I like working with earthenware clay and within its temperature range. I fire to 1100 degrees centigrade, at this lower temperature you can achieve a bright colourful palette. I've then added onglaze transfers and gold lustre for highlights.
