Using a limited palette I created a few layers of colour and texture that eventually led to a feeling of being in the garden, the warm tones suggested later autumn. The mark making allowed me to find a composition that was spontaneous and intuitive, no sketching or planning, it just felt right. Negative painting allowed the tree to evolve first, and the table gives it a sense of space and distance. The apples give the painting my story. The poppy heads and biscuit tin just happened because they were on my window still asking to be included.
